Are you as enamoured with alcohol ink as I am? I love the intensity of the colors and the dynamic mixing that occurs with them. I have looked at many artists who do this work, and I have formulated this idea for a class that you are going to love. I will start by showing you plenty of examples from some of my favorites.

This class, Intense Alcohol Ink and Line Art Foliage in Procreate, takes us into this world in digital format. The final art is intense and detail-rich, even though the techniques are relatively simple. In the class, I take you from start to finish in creating a complete alcohol ink piece that takes its composition clues from the intense ink base that we create by mixing the colors we lay down using the intense ink brushes I have included. One of the brushes will help you create a flower in the same form as I have!

This technique will help you create work that you can use for so many other purposes. It will be frame-ready, for one thing. This makes a frame-able piece of art you can give away or sell at craft fairs. Also, if you are into POD, this is a popular art form that people are paying for. If you are really energetic, you could even use these techniques to create repeat patterns. I have a previous class that shows you how to make this sort of background seamless.

In this class I’ll walk you through:

  • my step-by-step method for working in digital alcohol inks
  • tips for creating compositions that are balanced and dynamic
  • how I decide placement of the vine-like stems of the flower
  • using the stain-edged blender brush I have provided
  • methods for finishing flowers and leaves with thinner detail lines

Does this sound like something you would like to try? Are you unsure of how to accomplish this look digitally? Well, this class should get you going. With the provided assets and the step-by-step instructions, you’ll be able to pull off this look with just an hour or two of work!

The key concepts I will include:

  • review of my intense ink brushes and blenders
  • a look at compositional strategies to lay out your work dynamically
  • approaches you can take for adding suitable details in the Zentangle-like style

Learning alcohol ink techniques in Procreate can take you in so many different directions. I can’t wait to see what you produce because you all seem to come up with different interpretations which is just so very satisfying as a teacher!
